HOW IT WORKS

From download to first project

  1. Pay $10 and download. Save the Windows installer to your PC.
  2. Run the installer. Choose a dedicated short installation folder, such as C:\CDW or D:\CDW, in the folder browser.
  3. Let setup finish. The console installs the included tools and launcher automatically. No keyboard input is needed after folder selection.
  4. Open the launcher. Choose your working folder. Codex opens there in a dark-blue console, ready for your instructions.

What to know
before you start.

Windows requirements: Compatible 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11, Windows PowerShell 5.1, and .NET Framework 4.8. Allow at least 2 GB of free space. ARM64 is not included.

Internet and sign-in: You need internet access and authentication to use Codex. This purchase does not include an OpenAI subscription, API credit, or unlimited AI usage.

Installation: Use a dedicated short folder directly under a drive root. Setup creates the Start Menu shortcut automatically.

Portable use: The separate portable package keeps the launcher and tools together for thumbdrive use. Keep its entire folder, including hidden Support, intact.

What am I paying for?

The $10 price is for the independent Codex Development Workspace installer and launcher package. The included development tools retain their own licenses. OpenAI services and account charges are separate.

What file do I receive?

You receive the Windows installer, Codex-Development-Workspace-Setup-x64.exe. It installs the included development tools and Codex launcher.

Do I need to install the tools individually?

No. The installer sets up the included tools automatically after you choose an installation folder.

Is there a large launcher dashboard?

No. Opening the launcher shows a standard Windows folder browser. Choose your working folder and Codex opens in a console. Canceling the browser exits quietly.

Is this an official OpenAI installer?

No. Codex Development Workspace is an independent installer and launcher project. Codex is an OpenAI product.
